Over the weekend, Andy joined a panel on Fox & Friends with host Griff Jenkins, economist Peter Morici, and Chairman and CEO of Bennigan’s restaurant Paul Mangiamele to discuss the realities of the new normal for companies during the COVID-19 pandemic and how to reopen the country and economy.
When Andy was asked about how to reopen the country, he said, “Once this Coronavirus crisis begins to abate, we need to get back to the economic policies that President Trump had in place prior to the crisis that encouraged investment, encouraged business growth, and encouraged people to work. We need to stay away from the temptation to go to big government… We need to get back to what causes the economy to grow, not what causes the government to grow. It’s a crisis- we shouldn’t take advantage of it. We should get back to what works.”
At the end of the segment, Andy was questioned about the upcoming April jobs report to which he pointed out that we must remember this is a crisis and we can expect a downturn. “Nobody expects the economy to be growing in the middle of a pandemic- I think we need to come to grips with that,” Andy argued. He went on to suggest that once the crisis has diminished, a viable solution to boost the economy instead of the government issuing more checks could be implementing a payroll tax holiday through the end of the year to encourage people to work and companies to hire -“…People would prefer to have paychecks over government checks” Andy concluded.
